Famous paintings of Van Gogh are surely a memorable treat for all art lovers. Van Gogh, was born on 30th March, 1853 in Holland. His childhood was very pitiable. He was the son of priest. He did many jobs, such as at an art gallery, a school, a bookstore, as a preacher, and at last, he became an artist. He worked in London, Paris and The Hague. As he didn’t have a very happy life, he majorly painted sad paintings with poor people in them. He suffered from attacks of depression due to poverty as also an unsuccessful love affair with an English girl. He divided his time between working at Brussels Academy and amongst farmers in Holland. During the last six years of his life he created some 700 sketches and 800 oil paintings. In return, he got nothing but penury and mental tensions.  His paintings were always very dark until he saw some colorful Japanese paintings. Then Van Gogh started painting happier paintings. And then many famous paintings of van gogh were appreciated by everyone.

Famous Vincent van Gogh paintings

The Starry Night is one of the famous Vincent van Gogh paintings. Vincent painted while he was in the refuge at Saint-Rémy and his behavior was very unpredictable at the time, due to the severity of his attacks. Unlike most of Van Gogh’s works, Starry Night was painted from recollection and not outdoors as was Vincent’s favorite. This may, in part, explain why the emotional impact of the work is so much more commanding than many of Van Gogh’s other works from the same period.

One of the famous van Gogh paintings was the one in which he made a self portrait with bandage on the damaged ear. One day, he decided to move to live with his brother because he got bored of living alone and he wanted to find someone to paint with. When he finally found someone, he wished he hadn’t. Van Gogh and the other artist did not get along. In a fit of mental depression, Van Gogh cut his ear.

After these things happened, he painted one more depressing painting. It was called Wheatfield with Crows. After he finished it, he shot himself.

The famous paintings of  Van Gogh includes “sunflower”, Café terrace at night, The State Lottery Office, Fisherman with Sou’wester, The Loom, A Peasant Woman in White Cap, Autumn Landscape with Four Trees, The Potato-Eaters, Still Life with Open Bible, Peasant Man and Woman Planting Potatoes, The Italian Woman etc.
