Famous Oil PaintingFamous oil paintings

Famous oil paintings by famous artists have overwhelmed spectators all the way through time. Many famous artists reveal eye-catching detail of the original oil paintings. The oil paint was first used in Afghanistan sometimes between 5th and 9th centuries.  Traditionally the oil painting technique was often introduced with the artist sketching the figure onto the canvas with charcoal which is a thinned paint.  The oil paint is prepared from the linseed oil which comes out from the flax seed, a common fiber crop. The process and kinds of oil painting varies from artist to artist, but often includes certain steps. First, the artist chooses and prepares the surface.  Although surfaces like linoleum, wooden panel, paper, slate, pressed wood, and cardboard have been used. The most often used surface since 16th century has been canvas, although many artists used panel through the 17th century and beyond. Panel is more classy, heavier, harder to transport, and prone to warp or split in poor conditions.  An artist uses various methods and techniques for painting like Indirect painting where the base is laid down with egg tempera or turpentine thinned paint, this helps to tone the canvas. Once this layer is dried then the artist might then proceed by painting a “mosaic” of color swatches, working from darkest to lightest. The other method is ‘fat over lean’ where several layers of colors are applied. The several layers of oil paint help avoiding cracking and peeling off of the painting. There are several many such methods and techniques, but it depends upon the artist which to use.
