We have many times come across the term digital art and graphic design but most of us usually are not aware of the actual meaning of the term. This term basically refers to a number of artistic and professional disciplines which focuses on visual communication and presentation. Digital art and design is a term for a range of artistic works and practices which utilize digital technology.

Art is not always about the tools used to create it; but it is all about the vision, emotion or message of the artist. Earlier, many words such as multimedia art and computer media were used to describe digital art, but digital art is itself placed under the larger term “new media art”. Generally digital art falls into three basic categories:

  • Digital photography
  • Digital painting
  • Digital darkroom and fractals.

Digital Arts and Design

There are several subcategories of each of these main categories which the artist can combine and to create their own unique vision.  A vision that is above all thoughts and which helps us look into the inner beauty of the object rather than just the exterior look. The techniques of digital arts and design are used extensively by the mainstream media in advertisement, and by many film makers to produce special effects. Though desktop publishing is more related to graphic design, it has a huge impact on the publishing world.

Digital art can be purely computer-generated or also taken from some other sources which can be as a scanned  from  the source of a photograph or image drawn using vector graphics software, graphic tablet or mouse. The impact of digital technology has transformed traditional activities such as drawing, painting and sculpture, while new forms, such as digital installation, net art have become recognized as artistic practices. Though, technically the term may be applied to the  art done using other medias. Digital art is usually reserved for art that has been non-trivially modified by computer processes and the help of innumerable number of tools.

The career in digital art design is highly rewarding. Not only does it challenge an individual mentally, but also it offers the opportunity it network with wide variety of professionals in numerous fields.  This profession is also a great work at Home opportunity.
