This form of art is not new its history dates back more then a century in the 19th century at the times of great artists like Picasso. Abstract in the simplest of its meaning means intangible, some thing which can not be represented. The abstract art painting is also similar to the actual meaning of the word abstract itself. This form of art helps artists to go beyond the boundaries and make his/her paintings in new light and present it at the creative level which they want to depict it and portray it. This abstract art has evolved from 19th century till now undergoing several stages and levels of changes.

The reason for the popularity is not known and still remains a mystery. Oil painting is a method of painting with tints which are bound together with means of drying oil. In the early modern Europe linseed oil was used most frequently for the purpose of oil paining. The history of oil painting dates back to Afghanistan in 5th and 6th century but it gained popularity in the 15th century. There are several techniques in which these oil paintings are made and these techniques like everything else have evolved over the period of years. When this type of painting is used to create an abstract art work that les of particular art work can be called abstract art oil painting. It is assumed that since oil painting is one of the oldest styles of painting known is the reason behind its frequent use by abstract artists in their paintings.
Abstract artists paintings are always difficult for a normal or common man to understand as it requires interpretation skills as one has to understand what that artist want to convey through his painting. It is said an abstract artists paintings can only be understood by an artist himself or some one who knows about the art and is creative enough to depict the message which one artist wants to convey through his paintings. Thus it clearly means that one has to be creative to be an artist but to understand and appreciate abstract art it is important for the viewer also to open up his mind and try to be as creative as he can to reach close to understanding the artist’s language in his abstract art paintings.
